Forest School

Forest School at Our School

At Pennington C of E Primary School, our Forest School provision is a practical reflection of our vision and values in action. Through regular, hands‑on learning experiences in our outdoor environment, children are given the time and space to explore, discover and grow as confident, capable learners.

Forest School supports our commitment to developing the whole child. Children learn to take managed risks, solve problems collaboratively and develop resilience as they work with natural materials and respond to the changing seasons. These experiences nurture independence, perseverance and self‑belief, helping pupils to see challenges as opportunities to learn.

Our Forest School sessions promote respect — for themselves, for others and for the natural world. Children learn how to care for living things, work safely together and value teamwork and cooperation. This strengthens their sense of belonging and responsibility within our school community.

Wellbeing is at the heart of Forest School. Time outdoors supports children’s physical health, emotional wellbeing and mental resilience, offering calm, creative spaces where every child can succeed in their own way. By allowing children to lead their learning, Forest School celebrates inclusion, individuality and diversity, ensuring that all pupils feel valued and supported.

Through Forest School, we aim to inspire a lifelong love of learning, curiosity about the world and a deep connection to nature — equipping our children with the skills, values and confidence they need for life beyond the classroom.
